The Perfect Date

Noah Centineo plays another fake boyfriend in yet another Netflix teenage rom-com in “The Perfect Date”, but does this one warrant your time? The short answer: no.

In this iteration of the Netflix high school drama, Noah Centineo plays Brooks Rattigan, a “poor” high school student who’s obsessed with getting into Yale. He needs money to pay for the sky-high tuition, so he comes up with an app where he provides a stand-in boyfriend service for any event. With each stand-in date he’s hired for, Brooks gradually learns what it means to be himself.

Like many movies in the genre, it’s predictable and cheesy (and not the good kind of cheese either). The acting is fine, but all the characters are built off of cliches but doesn’t build or play off of them to elevate the genre. I can’t recommend this completely forgettable work since we’ve seen this movie before and it’s been done better (see “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”).
